THE PERFORMANCE.

Call me Calamity is a unique and fun interactive theatrical experience at the crossroad of immersive theater and virtual reality.

Call Me Calamity takes spectators to the heart of the American myth and makes them discover the birth of the first female figure of the West.

This fantastically theatrical character is reborn  from the ashes thanks to the new technologies.

Intentions. – Reinventing ourselves. This verb is the foundation of the experience. It is both the power of Calamity Jane and the proposition that this experience wishes to make to its participants.  –  Exalts the imagination.

The experience Call me Calamity has taken the challenge of telling the origins of this legend.

Participants (max 3 people per performance) through the use of special latest generation viewers (VR oculus headset), accompany Martha Jane Canary, this is the name of the original protagonist, in her adventures, until the moment when she became the legendary Calamity Jane. Calamity Jane creates her legend because she rejects the myth of the white conqueror, just as she rejects the place of women in that era. This character with an uncommon sense of freedom is portrayed as she reveals herself in the letters to her daughter: a playful, courageous woman of great verve.

Motion capture and virtual reality give the actress the tools to put herself in the shoes of Calamity Jane and interact with the audience.

As she tells her story, virtual reality allows her to change virtual environments, and put on new costumes with the snap of a finger. Call me Calamity becomes an incredible playground to improvise with the spectators.

The real power of this interactive performance is its theme too, the knowledge of being someone else, the pleasure of reinventing ourself to get out of the narrowness of a socially assigned identity in order to never be strangers to ourself. A search for authenticity: Calamity Jane’s storytelling skills and her freedom of action are one and the same, the real and virtual scene overlap in an original and powerful way.

WHO ARE.
Tamanoir Immersive Studio is a studio that creates immersive worlds. Each of these experiences build bridges between the performing arts and the current tools, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, videomapping, spatialized sound. This curiosity for all the arts comes from its two founders and their love for theatre, dance, cinema and video games. It is this energy that allows the studio to design experiences and place the spectator at the centre of its creative process.
Small Creative designs, develops and produces the narrative and immersive projects produced by the studio Small by Mac Guff Ligne. The team draws on 30 years of experience in the field of visual effects for fiction, documentary and animation, and leverages its extensive know-how of technologies of the games
industry and post-production to create new experiences in the field of immersive content, in an agile and technoagnostic manner (AR / VR / MR / immersive installations).
