Andrea Balzola, important italian new media theorist, critic, playwright and writer of the book “A multimedia dramaturgy” will explain something more about this field.
His works written precisely for theaters that uses new media and new technologies is consisting not only of texts but of a rich interweaving of images, words, dialogues, drawings to remember the multimedia installations with videos, animations, paintings, graphics of all kinds.Images therefore integrates in the text in the form of visual story-boards and photo-documentation to also tell the scenic writing.
Eclectic and versatile author, teacher of “Multimedia Dramaturgy” and “Digital Cultures” at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, he collaborated with Memé Perlini, historical theater and film director of the Roman avant-garde, with Luca Ronconi (more on his work, two video documentaries) and with the actress Marisa Fabbri (for whom he wrote the text Democrazia_Lia e Rachele and readapted Duras’s Pain).
He was the author of the texts and the screenplay (in collaboration with R. Pesce) of the cartoon “La Fattoria degli abnormali” designed by Onofrio Catacchio (2006).
Since 2004 he has started a dramaturgical collaboration with the director Alessandra Panelli and the Roman association “Diverse Abilità”, which works in the ASL with people with mental discomfort, creating with them the integrated theater company “I Gulliver”. With these he staged Gulliver’s Travels in
2004 and L’isola che c’e in 2006. journey into the laurentino 38 ”(documentary and theatrical show), soon to be published on DVD by Lucky Red. He wrote with Franco Prono The new electronic scene, one of the first books on the historicization of the theatrical video phenomenon and with Anna Monteverdi The digital multimedia arts (Garzanti).
